What would have happened if you had played the five most frequently drawn Thunderball main numbers in every comparable draw? This experiment calculates the five hottest main numbers from the current 1–39 era, tests every Thunderball from 1 to 14 and compares total £1-per-draw spend with the prizes each version would have returned.

What if you had played the five most-drawn Thunderball numbers in every current-format draw?

This backtest finds the five most frequently drawn main numbers in the Thunderball archive, fixes those five numbers as one line, then tests every possible Thunderball from 1 to 14. It shows how much one line would have cost to play in every draw and what each Thunderball version would have returned.

Comparable era: this test starts on 12 May 2010, when Thunderball expanded from 34 to 39 main numbers and the £500,000 current-format prize structure began. Older draws are deliberately excluded.

What this shows: this is a hindsight test, not a prediction. The five “most drawn” main numbers are calculated from completed current-format Thunderball draws and are then replayed through that same comparable history. Historical frequency does not make those numbers more likely in a future draw. The payout calculation uses the current Thunderball fixed prize values for each matching tier and only compares draws from the 1–39 era. The experiment recalculates when newer confirmed Thunderball results are available. The Hottest 5, Coldest 5 and Random 5 presets all use the same comparable archive, line price and prize rules.

What the result means

Even hindsight does not turn hot numbers into a winning system

This test deliberately gives the number-selection idea every historical advantage: the five main numbers are chosen because they were the most frequently drawn across the comparable archive, and the best-performing Thunderball is identified after all 14 Thunderballs have been tested. The useful question is not whether that makes the line more likely to win next time — it does not — but how much of the long-term ticket cost the historical prizes would have covered.

The important comparison is money in versus money out. Once the backtest loads, this section will show what percentage of the total Thunderball ticket spend would have been recovered as prizes.
