Open tax / Powerball guide →Explore Powerball jackpot-winning tickets from the game's first draw in 1992 through the latest jackpot win. Shared jackpots are stored as separate ticket records and apportioned by ticket share.
“Jackpot value won” uses each ticket's share of a shared jackpot, preventing the same advertised jackpot being counted in full for every winning state.
| Rank | State | Tickets | Jackpot value won | Largest jackpot | Latest | Next step |
|---|
Each row is a jackpot-winning ticket, not merely a draw. Shared jackpots therefore appear once for each winning ticket, while the ticket-share column prevents the full jackpot being attributed to every state.

A zero in the historical jackpot table does not automatically mean a state is “unlucky.” Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah do not sell Powerball at all. The cards below distinguish non-selling states from participating jurisdictions with no jackpot-winning ticket in the completed dataset.

Open tax / Powerball guide →My Lottery Life stores one record for each jackpot-winning ticket. If a jackpot is shared, the draw remains one jackpot event but each winning ticket receives its own location record. State jackpot-value totals use each ticket's proportional share rather than crediting the full advertised jackpot to every winning state.
Location precision is also explicit. A retailer pin means a retailer location has been verified; a city pin means the winning city is known; a state pin means the evidence does not justify a more precise location. The map does not manufacture an exact retailer for older jackpots where the record is incomplete.
Raw jackpot counts are shown as historical totals, not as proof that one state is inherently luckier than another. States joined Powerball at different times and have very different populations and ticket-sales volumes.

These figures are calculated from the same jackpot-winning-ticket dataset that powers the map and rankings above. They update from the underlying records rather than being maintained as separate hand-written statistics.

These statistics are calculated from the same historical dataset as the map. As new jackpot-winning tickets are added, the figures can update alongside the rankings and map.
The rankings above count jackpot-winning tickets, not simply jackpot draws. Use the “Number of wins” measure to see the current leader and compare every state on the same basis.
The map’s “Total jackpot value” measure adds each state’s share of advertised jackpot value. For shared jackpots, only the relevant ticket share is credited to that state, so the full jackpot is not counted multiple times.
The largest advertised jackpot in this dataset was the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot won by a California ticket for the November 7, 2022 drawing. The map includes the winning location where it has been verified.
Each jackpot-winning ticket receives its own record. If two tickets split one jackpot, the map contains two winning-ticket records, but state-value calculations use each ticket’s proportional share rather than assigning the entire advertised jackpot to both states.
No. Raw winner counts do not adjust for population, ticket sales or how long a jurisdiction has participated in Powerball. The rankings describe historical outcomes, not a greater probability of winning on an individual ticket.
Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah do not currently sell Powerball. They are shown differently on the map so they are not confused with participating states that simply have no jackpot winner in the dataset.
Yes. Participating U.S. jurisdictions are included in the underlying winner data where applicable. The main continental map may display some jurisdictions differently because of geography.
Location precision reflects the evidence available. Retailer-level locations are used when the retailer can be verified, city-level locations when only the city is sufficiently established, and state-level locations when the historical record does not justify greater precision.
The historical dataset is designed to cover jackpot-winning tickets from Powerball’s first year in 1992 through the latest jackpot represented on this page. Older records may have less precise location information than modern wins.
A single jackpot can be shared by winners in different states. Ticket-level records allow the map to show every winning location while preserving the distinction between one jackpot event and multiple winning tickets.
It is the combined advertised jackpot-share value associated with winning tickets in a state. It is not the cash option, the winner’s after-tax payout or the amount ultimately received by an individual winner.
No. Powerball’s advertised jackpot generally refers to the annuity value. The cash option is a separate amount and can be substantially lower. This map primarily uses advertised jackpot values so historical jackpots can be compared consistently.
Yes. State panels and ranking-table links connect to My Lottery Life’s relevant Powerball tax calculators and guides. Tax treatment can depend on both where the ticket was bought and where the winner lives.
The dataset can be extended whenever a new jackpot-winning ticket is confirmed. Adding the new record allows the map, state rankings and data-driven statistics to update from the same underlying information.
Powerball, state lottery material and official lottery announcements are preferred. Reliable historical reporting may be used to fill older location gaps. The map deliberately avoids inventing a retailer or exact location when the available evidence does not support one.
This Powerball winner map and historical dataset have been researched, consolidated and structured by My Lottery Life using official Powerball, state lottery and historical source material.
