Your Powerball prize $100,000 With 2X Power Play

Matching four white balls plus the red Powerball wins $50,000 before Power Play. A 2X multiplier makes that $100,000 outside California.

Power Play does not multiply the jackpot. Match 5 becomes $2 million with Power Play regardless of whether 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X is drawn. California uses pari-mutuel prize amounts for lower tiers.

Nine ways to win

Powerball prize chart and odds

You can win a Powerball prize with as little as the red Powerball alone. The jackpot requires all five white balls plus the red Powerball.

Optional multiplier

How Power Play changes Powerball prizes

Power Play costs an additional $1 per play in most participating jurisdictions and multiplies non-jackpot prizes. The Match 5 prize is a special case: it becomes a fixed $2 million with Power Play.

2XDouble eligible prizes
3XTriple eligible prizes
4XFour times eligible prizes
5XFive times eligible prizes
10XOnly when jackpot is $150m or less
Important: Power Play never multiplies the jackpot. If you match all five white balls but miss the red Powerball, Power Play changes the standard $1 million prize to $2 million regardless of the multiplier drawn.
Jackpot payout

Powerball jackpot: annuity or cash?

The advertised jackpot is the annuity value. A jackpot winner can instead choose the one-time cash value. Both options are before applicable federal and jurisdictional taxes.

30-payment annuity

The advertised jackpot is paid as 30 graduated payments over 29 years. The annual payments increase over the payout period.

Compare cash and annuity →

One-time cash option

The cash value is the amount available to fund the jackpot at the time of the drawing. It is normally lower than the advertised annuity total.

Why Powerball prizes can be different in California

California does not use the standard fixed lower-tier Powerball payouts. Its prizes are pari-mutuel, meaning the amount available in each tier is shared according to sales and the number of winning tickets.

Standard prize chart

Outside California, the familiar $4, $7, $100, $50,000 and $1 million base prizes apply to the corresponding winning combinations.

California payouts

A California ticket can win a different amount in a lower prize tier because the payout is calculated on a pari-mutuel basis rather than using the fixed national amount.

Separate add-on draw

Are Double Play prizes part of the Powerball prize chart?

No. Double Play is a separate optional drawing using the same numbers from your Powerball play. Where offered, it costs an additional $1 and has its own prize structure, including a $10 million top cash prize.

Powerball and Double Play are separate prize pools

A Power Play multiplier does not apply to Double Play prizes. Treat the main Powerball drawing and the later Double Play drawing as two separate chances to win with the same selected numbers.

Quick answers

Powerball prize and payout questions

What is the smallest Powerball prize?

The standard smallest Powerball prize is $4. You can win it by matching only the red Powerball, or by matching one white ball plus the red Powerball. Power Play can increase that prize outside California.

How much do you win for matching five Powerball numbers?

Matching all five white balls without the red Powerball wins a standard $1 million prize outside California. If Power Play was added, the Match 5 prize becomes $2 million.

How much do you win for four numbers and the Powerball?

Matching four white balls plus the red Powerball wins a standard $50,000 prize outside California. Power Play can raise it to $100,000, $150,000, $200,000, $250,000 or $500,000 depending on the multiplier.

Does Power Play multiply the Powerball jackpot?

No. Power Play multiplies eligible non-jackpot prizes. The jackpot itself is not multiplied.

Why is Match 5 always $2 million with Power Play?

Match 5 is handled differently from the other non-jackpot tiers. Adding Power Play changes the standard $1 million Match 5 prize to a fixed $2 million rather than multiplying it by the drawn 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X multiplier.

When is the 10X Power Play available?

The 10X Power Play multiplier is available only when the advertised Powerball jackpot is $150 million or less.

Are Powerball prizes taxed?

Powerball prizes may be subject to federal income tax and, depending on where the ticket was bought and the winner's circumstances, state or other jurisdictional tax. Tax treatment is separate from the advertised prize amount.

Is the advertised Powerball jackpot the cash amount?

No. The advertised jackpot is the annuity value. Jackpot winners can generally choose that annuity or the separately stated one-time cash value, subject to applicable rules and taxes.
