How does Power Play work?
Power Play is an optional Powerball feature that costs an additional $1 per play in most participating jurisdictions. It multiplies eligible non-jackpot prizes after the main drawing.
Add Power Play to an eligible Powerball play before the drawing. In Idaho and Montana, Powerball is bundled with Power Play for a $3 minimum purchase.
The multiplier drawn applies to eligible non-jackpot prizes. The 10X is only available while the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less.
Matching all five white balls without the red Powerball becomes a fixed $2 million prize with Power Play, regardless of the multiplier drawn.

How much would Power Play make my prize?
Match 4 + Powerball is a standard $50,000 prize outside California. A 2X Power Play multiplier doubles it to $100,000.
Powerball Power Play prize chart
The multiplier changes the standard lower-tier prizes as shown below. The jackpot is never multiplied, and Match 5 is always $2 million when Power Play was added.
California lower-tier prize amounts are pari-mutuel, so its payouts can differ from the fixed amounts shown in the national Powerball prize chart.
What are the odds of each Power Play multiplier?
The Power Play draw is weighted: 2X appears more often than the larger multipliers. The exact field changes depending on whether 10X is available.
When is 10X Power Play available?
The 10X multiplier is included only when the advertised Powerball jackpot annuity is $150 million or less. Once the advertised jackpot rises above $150 million, the possible multipliers are 2X, 3X, 4X and 5X.
Jackpot $150 million or less
2X, 3X, 4X, 5X and 10X can be drawn. The 10X itself has odds of 1 in 43 within the Power Play multiplier drawing.
Jackpot above $150 million
The 10X is removed from the multiplier field. The available Power Play results are then 2X, 3X, 4X or 5X.
What Power Play does not change
It does not improve your odds of matching numbers
Power Play changes the amount paid for eligible winning combinations. It does not change the numbers on your ticket or make a particular Powerball line more likely to win.
It does not multiply the jackpot
If your ticket matches all five white balls plus the red Powerball, the prize is the jackpot. Power Play does not turn that jackpot into 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X the advertised amount.
It does not apply to Double Play
Double Play is a separate optional drawing with its own prize structure. A Power Play multiplier from the main Powerball drawing does not multiply Double Play prizes.
California payouts work differently
California lower-tier Powerball prizes are pari-mutuel rather than the standard fixed national amounts, so Power Play prize treatment there follows California rules.
Power Play vs Double Play
The names sound similar, but the two features do completely different jobs.
Power Play
