UK LOTTERY GAMES

Which lotteries can you use these syndicate forms for?

These free agreements are designed for ordinary UK lottery syndicates. Use the same form whether your group plays one regular game or several different draws — just record the game or games your syndicate has agreed to enter.

Playing more than one game? That is fine too. The printable forms already include a “Lottery game(s)” or “Game(s) played” field, so your group can list more than one game and state which draws are covered by the agreement.

DO YOU NEED A WRITTEN AGREEMENT?

Why it is worth putting your syndicate rules in writing

You do not need to turn a friendly syndicate into a complicated legal project. The useful part of a written agreement is simply that everyone can see the same rules before money is at stake. If somebody later remembers a payment deadline, prize share or leaving date differently, you have something dated to refer back to.

At minimum, write down: who is in your syndicate, what each person pays, when payment is due, which games or draws are covered, who buys or controls the ticket, what happens after a missed payment, and how prizes are shared. The National Lottery’s own sample agreement covers the same core areas.

Not sure whether your group needs anything formal? Read Do You Need a Written Agreement for a Lottery Syndicate? before choosing a form.

KEEP IT WITH THE EVIDENCE

Keep the agreement with your payment and ticket records

Once the form is signed, do not file it away and forget the day-to-day evidence. Keep it with the records showing who paid, who was included and which tickets or digital entries were actually bought for each draw.

One important timing point: the agreement should exist before a winning draw. HMRC Statement of Practice E14 specifically refers to syndicate winnings being paid according to an agreement drawn up before the win.
FAQ

Common questions about these free syndicate forms

Do you legally need a written agreement for a lottery syndicate?

Not always. Informal arrangements can exist, but a written agreement is usually much easier to understand, administer and rely on if there is ever a disagreement about members, payments, tickets or winnings.

Are both lottery syndicate agreement forms free?

Yes. Both forms are completely free to print or save as a PDF. There is no account, email sign-up or payment required.

Which form should we use?

For most small family, friends or workplace syndicates, start with the simple form. Use the detailed agreement if the group has unequal shares, changing members or wants clearer rules for missed payments, ticket proof and eligibility.

Can I use the agreement for Lotto, EuroMillions, Thunderball or Set For Life?

Yes. The forms can be used for UK Lotto, EuroMillions, Thunderball and Set For Life syndicates, as well as groups that regularly play more than one game. Record the game or games covered by the agreement and, where useful, the regular draws your group intends to enter.

Can I save the form as a PDF instead of printing it?

Yes. Choose the print button for the form, then select your browser or device’s “Save as PDF” option instead of a physical printer.

Is this legal advice?

No. These are practical record templates based on public UK guidance. A disputed, high-value, unusual or commercially operated arrangement may justify independent legal or tax advice.

Do all syndicate members need to sign the form?

For a practical group record, having each member sign and date the version they are joining makes it much clearer which people accepted the terms. Keep the signed version rather than replacing it later with an undated copy.

What should we do if a new member joins later?

Record the new member, their contribution or share and the first draw they are included in. If the change affects the agreement, update it clearly and keep the previous version rather than silently overwriting the old record.

What happens if someone misses a payment?

Your form should say what the group has agreed before that situation happens. You might use a strict payment deadline, a defined grace period or another rule, but the important point is that the organiser should not invent the answer after the winning numbers are known.

Should we keep copies of the tickets as well as the agreement?

Yes. The standing agreement explains the group’s rules, while draw-by-draw ticket or online-entry proof shows what was actually bought. Payment records and a member list complete the evidence trail.
