If you asked me which UK lottery is easiest to win, I would ask one thing back: do you mean the top prize, or any prize at all? Those are two different questions, and they give two different answers.

Lotto changed in June 2026 — so the old 1 in 45 million figure is no longer the full answer
Before June 2026, one Lotto line had one chance to match six numbers from 59. The combination count for a single round is still 45,057,474, but the current game gives the same £2 line two separate rounds on each Wednesday and Saturday draw night.
One chance at Match 6

What do those odds actually mean?
The numbers get easier to understand if we stop treating them as abstract millions-to-one figures and just ask what each game is giving you in return for those odds.
At top-prize level, yes. Among these four games its 1-in-8,060,598 odds are the shortest. The obvious trade-off is that the top prize is £500,000 rather than a rolling multi-million-pound jackpot.
Because the attraction is different. EuroMillions is about the possibility of an exceptionally large jackpot. You accept much longer odds in exchange for a much larger potential prize.

Which game makes most sense for what you actually want?
There is no single “best lottery” once prize size, ticket price and the type of win matter as well as raw probability. The useful question is what you are trying to get from the game.
“I care most about the best chance of the top prize.”
Thunderball. It is the clear winner on top-prize probability among these four games, although the prize is fixed at £500,000.
“I would rather win something more often.”
Lotto. Its two-round structure gives a £2 line an overall prize chance of about 1 in 4.9.
“If I am dreaming, I want the biggest possible win.”
EuroMillions. The jackpot can reach extraordinary levels, but the 1-in-139,838,160 jackpot odds are the longest in this group.
“£10,000 a month sounds more useful to me than one cheque.”
Set For Life. Its top prize turns the win into a 30-year monthly income, which is a completely different proposition from the other three.
Can you improve your lottery odds?
There is no number pattern or prediction system that makes one valid line more likely to be drawn than another. There are, however, some things that are mathematically true.
More different lines cover more combinations
Two different valid lines give you twice the combination coverage of one line. They also cost twice as much. The improvement is real, but it remains proportional rather than magical.
A syndicate can buy more combinations
Pooling money means a group can cover more lines without one person paying for all of them. The trade-off is equally simple: a prize is shared.
Hot, cold and overdue numbers are not “due”
Historical frequency tells you what happened before. It does not give a number memory or momentum in the next independent draw.
Number choice can affect sharing, not probability
A birthday-heavy line has exactly the same draw probability as any other valid line. If lots of people choose it, though, a winning jackpot may need to be shared more ways.
