Irish Lotto Jackpot Cap and Will Be Won Draws

The current Irish Lotto jackpot is capped at €16 million. Once the jackpot is at its cap, money that would normally increase the top prize rolls down into the next prize tier with winners. The jackpot can remain at the cap for a maximum of five draws; if nobody matches all six numbers in the fifth draw at the limit, the jackpot is rolled down and shared at the highest winning prize tier below it.

Latest Irish Lotto Results

Every Irish Lotto draw produces three sets of numbers when Lotto Plus is played: the main Lotto result, Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2. Keeping all three together makes it much easier to check a ticket properly.

L

Main Irish Lotto Result

The main draw uses six numbers from 1 to 45 plus a Bonus Ball. Matching all six main numbers wins or shares the rolling Lotto jackpot.

+1

Lotto Plus 1 Result

Lotto Plus 1 uses a separate set of six winning numbers and a Bonus Ball. The Match 6 top prize is €1 million.

+2

Lotto Plus 2 Result

Lotto Plus 2 is another separate draw. Since September 2026 its Match 6 top prize is also €1 million.

How to Play Irish Lotto

Irish Lotto is straightforward: choose six numbers, buy at least two lines and then compare your numbers with the six main balls and Bonus Ball drawn on draw night.

Choose Six Numbers From 1 to 45

Select your own six numbers or use a Quick Pick. Every valid six-number combination has the same chance of being drawn.

Play at Least Two Lotto Lines

A Lotto line costs €2 and the minimum purchase is two lines, so a standard Lotto ticket starts from €4.

Match the Drawn Numbers

Six main numbers and one Bonus Ball are drawn. The jackpot requires all six main numbers; lower prizes use other matching combinations.

Choose Your Own Irish Lotto Numbers

Select six numbers from 1 to 45 for each line. Choosing your own numbers does not change the mathematical odds compared with any other valid combination.

Use an Irish Lotto Quick Pick

A Quick Pick creates a random valid line for you. It has exactly the same chance of winning as a line chosen manually.

Advance Play and Scheduled Play

Irish Lotto can be played ahead for future draws, while Scheduled Play in the National Lottery app can keep Lotto entries running for 3, 6 or 12 months.

Monday, Wednesday and Saturday

Irish Lotto Draw Days and Times

Irish Lotto is drawn three times a week: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The Monday draw was added in September 2026 when the game changed from 47 balls to 45.

The official National Lottery sales cut-off is 7:45pm on draw nights. The Lotto draw is livestreamed by the National Lottery at around 7:55pm and is also broadcast before the RTÉ Nine O'Clock News.

Irish Lotto Prizes and Odds

The amounts above are the National Lottery's current guide values. Most non-jackpot prize amounts can vary with the number of winners and the money available in the prize pool for that draw. The €4 prizes for Match 3 and Match 2 + Bonus are fixed under the current game.

Extra draws on the same ticket

Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2

Lotto Plus adds two separate draws to a Lotto ticket using the same selected numbers. From September 2026, both Lotto Plus 1 and Lotto Plus 2 offer a €1 million Match 6 top prize.

Two Additional Number Draws

Plus 1 and Plus 2 each have their own six main numbers and Bonus Ball, so one Lotto line can be checked against three separate draws.

€1 Million Top Prize in Each Plus Draw

Match all six numbers in Lotto Plus 1 or Lotto Plus 2 to win the €1 million top prize, subject to the game's overall prize caps.

Two Lotto Lines With Plus Cost €6

The minimum remains two Lotto lines. Adding Lotto Plus to those two lines brings the minimum ticket cost from €4 to €6.

Irish Lotto Statistics and Number Trends

Irish Lotto statistics are more useful when the game era is clear. The current 6/45 format began in September 2026, so older 47-ball draws should not be blended into current-game frequency tables without clear labelling.

The current Irish Lotto era

What Changed in Irish Lotto in September 2026?

The present Irish Lotto format began on Saturday 5 September 2026. The number pool was reduced from 47 balls to 45, improving the mathematical odds across the Lotto and Lotto Plus prize tiers.

A new Monday draw was added, creating three weekly Lotto draws instead of two. Lotto Plus 2's top prize increased from €250,000 to €1 million, while Lotto Plus 1 remained at €1 million.

The ticket price did not increase as part of the change. Two Lotto lines still cost €4, and two Lotto lines with Lotto Plus still cost €6.

After a winning draw

Irish Lotto Winners and Claiming a Prize

Major Lotto wins can attract plenty of attention, but confirmed information should come from the National Lottery rather than rumours about who may have won. Winner stories can include the draw, prize amount and ticket location when those details are officially released.

If you think you have a winning ticket, keep it secure and check the official claim instructions for the prize level involved. Draw-game prizes must be claimed within 90 days of the winning draw. A physical ticket is a bearer instrument, so do not lose it or post identifying ticket details publicly.

Before You Celebrate

Check the draw date and all six main numbers carefully.

Check the Bonus Ball and any Lotto Plus entries.

Keep a paper ticket somewhere secure; it is a bearer instrument.

Remember the 90-day deadline for draw-game prize claims.

Use the Irish National Lottery's official claim guidance for your prize level.

Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland

Irish Lotto and Northern Ireland

Irish Lotto is a National Lottery game in the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland participates in the UK National Lottery instead, so Irish Lotto and UK Lotto are separate games with different number ranges, operators and rules.

This matters particularly for location tools. Republic of Ireland locations belong in the Irish Lotto tools, while a Northern Ireland location should be recognised and explained rather than treated as an error.
