Main draw

How The Big Win works

The Big Win is the main Health Lottery draw. You choose five numbers from 1 to 50, or use Quick Pick. Five winning numbers and a Bonus Ball are selected using an approved random number generator. The more numbers you match on the same line, the higher the prize.

The £25,000 Match 5 top prize is shared if more than one player matches all five main numbers. Lower tiers include cash prizes and free tickets, which is why the quoted 1 in 9.7 figure means the chance of winning any prize, not the chance of winning £25,000.

Background

What The Health Lottery actually is

The Health Lottery launched in 2011 as a society-lottery scheme designed to raise money for health-related causes across Great Britain. For more than a decade, money was raised on behalf of multiple local community interest companies and distributed through the People's Health Trust.

The structure changed on 23 January 2025. The Health Lottery now operates on behalf of The Health Lottery Foundation, which receives and assesses grant applications and awards funding across Britain. In its first year distributing funds, the Foundation reported £1.5 million awarded to 75 charities.

The Health Lottery is not The National Lottery. Health Lottery ELM Limited is the external lottery manager and is licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission under account number 26057. The Health Lottery Foundation is the trading name of The Health Lottery Donations CIC and has its own Gambling Commission licence.

Three practical things to know

18+ and in Great Britain

Online players must be 18 or over and physically located in Great Britain when they play. Online registration also requires a GB address and qualifying GB bank/debit-card details.

Retail and online claims differ

Online wins under £2,000 are normally credited to the player's wallet. Retail prizes up to £50 can generally be claimed at participating retailers; larger prizes follow the operator's claim process.

Keep retail tickets safe

The Health Lottery says retail players have 180 days to claim qualifying prizes, including the Wednesday and Saturday free prize draws.
