Why are the jackpot odds shown as about 1 in 1.35 million?
There are 2,704,156 different ways to choose 12 numbers from 24. One possible line matches all 12 winning numbers, while one other line is the exact opposite set and matches none.
That gives two jackpot-winning outcomes in the full set of combinations. MLL calculates the combined chance of winning the £25,000 top prize by either route as approximately 1 in 1,352,078. The Health Lottery rounds that to 1 in 1.35 million.
This also explains why the prize table can show roughly 1 in 2.7 million for matching exactly 12 and the same odds for matching exactly 0, while the combined jackpot chance is twice as good.
